10 Easy Vegetarian Snacks

Vegetarian snacks can be healthy part of any balanced diet. While fresh fruits veggies, and nuts are all great snacks, like anything else that you eat frequently, they can become dull after awhile.

There is no reason for snacks to become monotonous. Enjoy a wide variety of snack options.

Below are just some of the many choices available for vegetarians:

Apple Slices Sprinkled with Cinnamon

Perfect vegetarian snack when you are craving something sweet. The name says it all. Cut an apple into desired-sized pieces. Spread slices out on a plate and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon.

Fruit Kabob

This is one of many vegetarian snacks that also works well for a vegetarian breakfast. All you need is a wood skewer or two and whatever fruit you like to put on it. Grapes and berries are the easiest, but any fruit will do. Your imagine is the limit!

Nutty Trail Mix

While trail mix is a healthful snack choice, it is calorie dense and is better to eat before or during physical activity.

A small serving has several hundred calories. That's why hikers and campers love to bring it with them for a quick source of protein and energy. This is also a good source of vegetarian protein.

Use three or more varieties of your favorite nuts. For me, this means peanuts, almonds, and walnuts, but use whatever you like the best.

Add a handful of chocolate chips and another of dried cranberries. Mix together well. Sometimes, I like to make a fairly large portion of this trail mix and store it in plastic bags for an easy snack or breakfast.

Wasa Crackers with Cream Cheese

Wasa crackers, or another type of long, thin cracker, can be found in most grocery stores. Not only are they low in calories, they also typically have a few grams of fiber per cracker.

Spread several of these with either cream cheese or hummus for a quick and filling vegetarian snack.

Check out Wasa's website for even more recipes! I have no financial interest in whether or not you choose Wasa, it is simply a brand of crackers that I like.

Fruit with Yogurt Dip

Pour some low-fat yogurt into a small bowl over serving dish.Vanilla or strawberry are the best flavors to use in my opinion, but use any flavor of yogurt you want.

Use yogurt as a dip for apple slices, grapes, strawberries, etc. Great for sharing with friends and family!

Peanut butter and Banana Crackers

Spread peanut butter on desired number of Ritz Crackers or any other type of cracker that you like. Thinly slice a banana and place a banana slice on each cracker.

If you want to serve a variation of this as a vegetarian desert or you are just craving something chocolate, spread half of the cracker with peanut butter and the other half with Nutella.

Then place a banana slice on top. This recipe is also mentioned in my article about attending or hosting a vegetarian barbecue.

Cheesy Toast

Toast a slice or two of whole wheat bread. Sprinkle with shredded cheese or place a slice of cheese on top.

Use more than one type of cheese to make it more interesting, if you want. Melt cheese onto toasted bread in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. Microwave for another 10 seconds if needed.

Berry Delicious Yogurt

Put half a cup or so of a berry-flavored yogurt into a dish or mug. Vanilla yogurt is also fine.

Add raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, etc. Stir well. Top with low-fat granola, cereal or even shredded coconut.

Mini Vegetarian Pizza

Use halves of bagels, English muffins, or another type of bread. Spread with tomato sauce.

Then, sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Add vegetarian pepperoni, sliced peppers, olives, etc.

Melt your mini vegetarian pizza in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then for an additional 10 to 15 seconds as needed.

Bite-Sized PB&J

Split a hotdog bun in half. Toast if desired. Spread one side with peanut butter and the other with jelly. Cut into bite-sized pieces.

This is a great snack or breakfast for eating on the run. You make other types of bite-sized vegetarian sandwiches using this same idea.

This list includes some of my favorite vegetarian snacks. There are many more out there. I have found that many of them can be modified to make excellent vegetarian meals.
